'Don't you know you turn me on?' - The Recoilers

Talk about a deliciously fantastic evening, oh my soul! I've never had a more relaxing, enjoyable, happy night. wee-oo! It was my nephew's first birthday yesterday, so we had a mundo party all day yesterday for him... and then we dashed out to Barrymore's, thinking we were late and wouldn't get in... then got there and realized it was really really early and there was no one there yet. Ha! Silly us!

In any case, Addy took good care of me [as per usual. that boy is ca-ray-zay!]. Yeehah! It was a night of Ians and Peters and Adrocks and Camerons and oooooh. Did I mention a fabulous rock show? Oh yeah, that too!

There was Paperjack... which I'd seen before, but they didn't really turn me on until last night. Why? Cause I realized their drummer was the same drummer as Jake Lovetart the night before which, in turn, is the same guy that works at Second Cup @ Carleton and is superdupercool. Yummyfur! They were like a up-superfriendz/sloan mix kinda deal. Tres tres beau travail. And then... Snailhouse. They put me in a bloody trance! In a good sense, of course. It was like watching Weakerthans melding with the Rheostatics... talk about a weirdly wonderful combination. And I may have missed an acoustic Barstool Prophets show in Wakefield... but I witnessed the wonder that is the Recoilers once again... Rrrock!

They are the next Starling, indeed. Only more rock than pop. Mind you, I was still in a trance at this point, but that didn't really matter. Talk about a rock n roll weekend. Jake Lovetart on Friday night was crazy... like watching Velvet Goldmine and Hard Core Logo all at once. And then we requested Mr. E's Beautiful Blues [we being Leah & I] cause that song is THE best for dancing... and the lovely DJ played it for us. Actually, he seemed really happy that we requested it. Yummyfur! I <3 Zaphod's Electric Ballroom on Friday nights with all my heart. Yes yes yes. I am still the dancing geek. Why? Cause I'm being dragged [ha yes dragged... that's right] to Retro 80s at Barrymore's tonite which means... more dancing! Wee-oo!

Oh dear me... I completely forgot about the fantasmical music they were playing before & in-between bands last night [besides the usual after-bands dance like a maniac type music]. First they were playing Old 97s' Fight Songs, which is one of the sweetest alt-country CD's in the world. And then... the New Pornographers! Rrrock! Couldn't have been better...
